What to see in Madrid

Located in the geographical centre of the Iberian Peninsula, the Spanish capital is a cosmopolitan city full of surprising places to discover, from the famous Puerta del Sol, the ‘Kilometre Zero’ of the Spanish road network; to the emblematic Plaza Mayor, the Habsburg district and the Royal Palace among many others.

Also known as Palacio de Oriente, the official royal residence was ordered to be built in the Eighteenth century by King Philip V. It is worth visiting it just to walk around its surrounding gardens and for the mandatory visit to Almudena cathedral.

Plaza de España, Gran Vía and Puerta de Alcalá are other places where you can find hotels in Madrid, since they are located in the city centre and always in the midst of a lively atmosphere. Nearby is El Retiro, a beautiful park which is the city’s green lung. It was built in the Seventeenth century and since then it has become a popular spot amongst locals and tourists to walk around and enjoy nature.

Another favourite outdoor spot is the Temple of Debod, a construction of over 2,200 years of age which was a gift from Egypt to Spain for the help provided to save the Nubian temples in the North African country.

Art and culture play a very important role in Madrid’s leisure agenda. You can visit more than 60 museums as well as concert venues, cinemas, theatres… We recommend that you visit the so-called Paseo del Arte, also known as the Art Triangle, an area that comprises the three most important museums in the city (Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía) and all of their priceless works of art.

What to do in Madrid

Gran Vía, Madrid’s emblematic avenue, extends itself from Calle Alcalá to Plaza de España. Famous for its cinemas, restaurants and fashion boutiques, it has become known as “Madrid’s Broadway” due to the huge increase in musical theatre. Gran Vía never sleeps and it is home to some of the best hotels in Madrid and all kinds of leisure activities for all ages.

If you fancy trying some tasty tapas, the districts of Malasaña, Chueca and La Latina are some of the best for it, where as well as restaurants you can also find brand new places to eat and drink and fantastic nightlife spots to go partying with your friends.

On the other hand, Parque Warner is one of the most modern theme parks in the whole of Europe thanks to its rides, many of them unique on the continent, among which you can find four roller coasters (some of the highest, largest and most stunning in Spain), the second-highest drop tower in the world and dozens of other rides for children and the whole family. The park is located in the municipality of San Martín de la Vega, 17 miles south of Madrid.

Madrid is one of Europe’s most attractive business centres, with 2 Conference Centres, the IFEMA exhibition centre and more than 80,000 spaces in other business areas. With excellent transport communications with Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, which receives over 1000 weekly flights from around the world, Madrid has an excellent transport network that allows you to get around the whole city with ease.
