What to see in Malaga

Thanks to its more than 3,000 years of history which have left a fascinating cultural heritage behind, a delicious cuisine and fantastic year-long weather, Málaga has become one of the most important cities on an international scale. For this reason, finding hotels in Málaga is a fantastic decision to discover this great destination.

To start, the best idea is to discover the old town, where you can find emblematic monuments such as the Cathedral of La Encarnación, known amongst locals as la manquita (the one-handed one), since one of its towers has not been finished; the Alcazaba, the majestic Muslim fortress; and the ancient ruins of the Roman theatre, which are over 2,000 years old.

Head over to Plaza de la Merced, where you will find Pablo Picasso’s birth house, and continue down to Calle Larios, one of the city’s most important streets, which leads to Alameda Principal, the city’s main boulevard, and Paseo del Parque. At the end of the boulevard you will find Muelle Uno, a cosmopolitan space by the port with shops, restaurants and a wide range of leisure and cultural activities to enjoy, such as the Pompidou Centre of Málaga.

Other places worth visiting in the city are La Malagueta bullring, a Neo-Mudéjar construction built in 1976 by Joaquín Rucoba; the Carmen Thyssen Museum, which exhibits works from the Nineteenth and early-Twentieth centuries; and the Picasso Museum, home to over 200 works by the famous artist.

This extensive cultural programme is not the only reason why it is worth looking for hotels in Málaga, because local cuisine is also one of the main tourist attractions. Based on the Mediterranean diet, here you can try specialities such as pescaíto frito (deep-fried fish), ajoblanco (garlic soup), espetos (grilled fish), aubergines with honey or the famous camperos (grilled sandwiches). Try them in some of the most famous restaurants in the city, such as El Pimpi, a place which regularly attracts many celebrities; in the Atarazanas Market or in any of the bars and restaurants by the beach located near your hotels in the coast of Málaga.

What to do in Málaga

If you would like to discover the magnificent beaches of the Costa del Sol, you can find many hotels in Málaga which adapt to all your needs. Remember to visit the beaches of Cabopino in Marbella, a protected natural area with an idyllic fine-sand beach with a naturist area; and La Bajadilla, which is flanked by a beautiful seafront promenade where you can enjoy a pleasant stroll.

In Benalmádena you can find Bil Bil beach under the homonymous castle, a place with quiet waters and fantastic views and, in Torremolinos, the most popular ones are Bajondillo, a long urban beach ideal for the whole family with fine sand of a dark colour; Carihuela and Los Álamos, which have palm groves with natural grass and some of the best beach restaurants in the area which serve delicious and fresh fish and seafood. In terms of the city of Málaga, the best and most popular beach is La Malagueta, but you can also opt for La Misericordia or Pedregalejo.

Málaga also has many natural parks and spaces which are worth visiting, such as Sierra de las Nieves, Grazalema, El Torcal in Antequera, the wonderful Maro cliffs and the natural landscape of Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, which is where the famous and daunting walkway Caminito del Rey is.
